Here is Chris Marlowe's New Blog Entry on altitude.tv:

Back to Back Wins Show True Grit

Rooster Cogburn would be doubly proud of the Denver Nuggets!

And the little girl too.

This week, the Mile High Crew registered back to back wins over the Portland Trailblazers and the Minnesota T-Wolves.

While there certainly won’t be a parade for beating two teams that probably won’t make the playoffs, I thought it was a noteworthy accomplishment.

Translation: for the Nuggets, it’s been tough to do.

Did you know that prior to this week, the Denver’s record in back to back sets was 1-5 in game ones, and 3-3 in game twos? That’s right, the Nuggets have had all kinds of problems in back to back sets. As have many of the teams in the NBA.

This time around however, the Nuggets were able to win both.

First, a 95-77 home win over the Blazers, without Carmelo Anthony and Al Harrington. And then a 119-113 road victory at Minny, without Melo, K-Mart, Nene and Harrington!

Definitely, two gutsy, feel good wins that came at exactly the right time.

I was happy to see Renaldo Balkman get some meaningful playing time.

And you know what, he produced. Naldo shot 4 for 5, had 10 points and played aggressive defense. However, if you ask him what he was most proud of, I bet he would tell you “I made both of my free throws”. As an aside, Renaldo’s personality may be a little offbeat, but he is one of the most well liked fellas on the team.

Apparently, Chauncey Billups isn’t so old after all!

In Wednesday night’s win, CB had a season high 36 points on 9-14 shooting, made 12-13 free throws added 5 assists and made one big shot after another. In the last four games, Mr. Big Shot has played like “Mr. All-Star” averaging 26 points per game. What’s been the key? Hello…his wrist doesn’t hurt!

Al Harrington told me that his dislocated thumb is getting better and that he might suit up Saturday night. He said that shooting the ball won’t be a problem, but that catching the ball might. He also mentioned that it took over an hour to put/yank his dislocated thumb back in place Ouch!!

Finally, assuming the thumb, the hamstring, the wrist, and all the knees are good to go, the Denver Nuggets just may be at full strength for the first time this season!

What will Coach George Karl do with a complete roster at his disposal?

Tune in 6:30 PM Saturday night to find out.

Julie Browman's New Blog Entry on altitude.tv

Here is Julie Browman's New Blog Entry on altitude.tv:

    'Tis the Season

Can you believe it? The holiday season is officially here. Actually it probably came to town a couple of weeks ago. That’s when I noticed the Christmas decorations in the mall, and commercials talking about Christmas shopping. Yikes. I’m already behind. But with Thanksgiving upon us, it’s a good time for Avs fans to step back and take a look at what they’re thankful for as far as the Avalanche go. A great start to the season, some non-household names contributing to the success of the team, and the solid play of trusty veterans. But given the holiday spirit, I think there is something even bigger we can be thankful for. Recently Milan Hejduk and Avs captain Adam Foote visited the Urban Peak homeless shelter. At the shelter, the two veteran players prepared food for the shelter, whose clients are mostly teenagers. As part of the NHL initiative, “Rock and Wrap it Up,” the Avs and the Pepsi Center are partnering with the Denver Inner City Parish food donation program called “We don’t Waste.” WDW daily collects and distributes food leftover from the Pepsi Center and other places that otherwise would go to waste. The food is distributed to 20 area nonprofit organizations including Urban Peak. Foote and Hejduk helped make some snacks from the donated food, but they also talked with the teenagers about goal setting in life. Something that no matter what you want to be in life, makes your path a lot easier. So while it’s exciting as fans to be thankful for a team that is doing well, we should also be thankful that the veteran leaders of this team are setting an example that goes well beyond what happens on the ice. And that’s a game winner no matter how you look at it. Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

Chris Marlowe's Two Brand New Blog Entries on altitude.tv

Here is Chris Marlowe's Two Brand New Blog Entries on altitude.tv:

Why Can’t Anybody Ever Give The Denver Nuggets Credit?

I’ve seen it happen over and over again in the 7 years I have been with the Nuggets and I’m sick and tired of it!. The Nuggets get a big win and NOBODY wants to give them any credit. It’s always “the other team played bad!”

Classic example Thursday night: the Nuggets pull off a thrilling, come from behind win over the Lakers and everybody is talking about what happened to LA?? Ernie, Kenny and Charles at TNT, and all the gang at ESPN--crying about the Lakers. “It’s just another game to them”, “everybody gets up for the defending champs”, “don’t worry, they’ll get it together when they need to.” Come on!

How about some “fair and balanced” reporting? Here are a few legit comments that could have been made. The Denver Nuggets, even without Kenyon Martin and Chris Anderson, have a very talented group of players. When they get to full strength, they could be on of the best teams in the Western Conference. The Nuggets, who won 3 of 4 against LA last season, seem to match up well against the Lakers. With his 4th quarter version of small ball, George Karl out-coached Phil Jackson. Shoot, just some decent reporting by the national media would be nice sometimes.

You know how some people say that Carmelo Anthony needs a better supporting cast to  win a championship? Don’t believe it. When Melo plays like he did Thursday night, he’s good enough to carry his team to victory any time against any other opponent. He played 41 minutes, scored 31 points and pulled down 13 rebounds. But most importantly, he shot 14-25, 56% against Ron Artest, arguably the best wing defender in the game!

Another key factor in the Laker game was Ty Lawson. In 22 action packed minutes he ran around and through the Laker defense for 17 points and 5 assists. Truth be told, the Lakers have NO ONE that can guard Ty. No one.

I also liked the play of Nene who finished with 18 points on a variety of spins, layups and dunks. He had two jams that were sensational. One going around Pau Gasol and throwing it down and the other when our Brazilian Beefcake knocked Pau down and then dunked in his face. Those were sweet!

Finally, anybody out there impressed with the play of rookie Gary Forbes? I am. This guy is a major surprise. He’s physical, jumps out of the gym and shoots 3s. Add in the fact that he can play D, and you have a player who will contribute the rest of the season.

I Think I May Have Jinxed The Nuggets!

“He couldn’t throw a pea in the ocean!”

That’s what I said about Pacers forward Mike Dunleavy on Tuesday night.

And in the first quarter I was absolutely correct--he couldn’t. He was scoreless and clanking shots badly.

How did I know that in the third quarter, Dunleavy would throw a whole bag of Birdseye into the proverbial ocean! Twenty-four points in one quarter--leading to a big win over the Denver Nuggets.

As you might imagine, Tuesday night’s game in Indy was as memorable as it gets for me.  It ranks right up there with the Nuggets shock and awe destruction of New Orleans in the 2009 playoffs. It also brought back memories of Carmelo Anthony’s 33 points in a quarter versus the Timberwolves, and JR Smith’s 11 three pointers against Sacramento.

The final score had Indiana beating the Nuggets 144-113. One of the 6 Pacers in double figures was sophomore forward Tyler Hansbrough who had 20! Nuggets assistant coach Adrian Dantley told me on the flight home that he believes that Hansbrough will NEVER score 20 points or more again in his NBA career! Was it luck or skill for the former Tar Heel? Stay tuned.

By the way, my pal Jake in California, thinks that Dantley compared favorably to Hall of Famer Elgin Baylor. Both were incredibly gifted in scoring around the basket amongst much taller players.

One more Dantley add: we started talking about great players and he told me to look up the numbers for Hall of Famer Bill Bradley. So I did...Bradley in the NBA averaged 12.4 points per game for his career, 3.2 rebounds and shot 45%. Similar numbers to what JR Smith has put up in his 7 years in the association. Sure Bradley was on 2 championship teams with the Knicks, but his NBA career was that of a role player.

If you’ve watched the Nuggets play this season, you probably realize that they are a work in progress. It seems to me that a roller coaster ride is what we’re on until Chris Anderson and Kenyon Martin return to full time duty. When they do, I believe that the Nuggets will be as talented as any other team in the West, save the Lakers.

Finally, some advice for Carmelo Anthony for Thursday night’s game against the NBA Champion Lakers. Don’t try to outmuscle Ron Artest. The only Nugget that can do that is trainer Steve Hess. Instead, use your quickness, speed, jumping ability and brains to baffle Ron Ron. Bottom line: outmaneuver Artest and a Nuggets victory awaits.

2010-11 Denver Nuggets Player Preview: Nene on Nuggets.com with a Picture of Nene

Here is the 2010-11 Denver Nuggets Player Preview: Nene on Nuggets.com with a Picture of Nene:

The Rock: Nene provides durability, consistency in the paint

As the 2010-11 season approaches, Nuggets.com is taking a closer look at each Nuggets player and their prospects for the upcoming season. Assistant coach Chad Iske was kind enough to provide a candid scouting report, which reflects the views of the Nuggets coaching staff as a whole.

Today’s featured player is Nene, who was invaluable to the Nuggets last season while playing in all 82 games for the first time in his career. Nene fortified his status as one of the league’s most dependable centers, shooting .587 from the field while averaging 13.8 points and 7.6 rebounds.

A playmaker in the pivot, Nene also averaged career-high 2.5 assists, which was second among all NBA centers, and no center recorded more steals than the sure-handed Brazilian during the 2009-10 season.

Nene’s durability and consistency will be prized from the very start of 2010-11, as fellow big men Chris Andersen and Kenyon Martin recovery from knee operations. If the Nuggets can star the season strong, there a possibility that Nene contributions could merit All-Star consideration.

Here are a few more things to note about Nene (formerly Maybyner Rodney Hilario) as he enters his ninth NBA season:

    PERFORMANCE TO REMEMBER IN 2009-10

In a testament to his efficiency, Nene needed just 32 minutes to record 20 points, 10 rebounds, five assists, four steals and four blocked shots in a victory over the Toronto Raptors on Nov. 17. He became the first player in Nuggets NBA history to reach those levels in five categories in a single game.

COACHING STAFF’S ASSESSMENT OF LAST SEASON

“We were happy about Nene playing a full season, staying healthy and fighting through the grind of the season while having to deal with the rigors of post play night in and night out. Him playing the whole year was huge. He’s kind of the unsung hero, the backbone of the team in that regard. He was there every night.”

    OUTLOOK FOR 2010-11

“We always want Nene to be a little more assertive. We need to get him more touches than he’s gotten in the past and have him be a more integral part of the offense because he’s so good creating out of the post for other people. He does so many things well that go unnoticed that you want him to keep doing those things.

“A lot of times with Nene, the focus is brought to the things that he doesn’t do, but he doesn’t lose his battle very often. He wins his individual battle more times than not.”

IN HIS OWN WORDS: WHAT WENT RIGHT LAST SEASON

“It was normal, consistent. That is what I look for.”

    IMPROVEMENTS FOR 2010-11

“I can go higher on the field-goal percentage, so I want to raise that.”

    INDIVIDUAL GOALS

“I want to shoot 60 percent from the field.”

    STAT THAT BEARS RE-TWEETING

17 Number of games in which Nene shot at least 70 percent from the field last season, including nine games of 80 percent or better and one 6-for-6 game against Memphis on Nov. 1.

2010-11 Denver Nuggets Player Preview: Arron Afflalo on Nuggets.com with a Picture of Arron Afflalo

Here is the 2010-11 Denver Nuggets Player Preview: Arron Afflalo on Nuggets.com with a Picture of Arron Afflalo:

Triple-A a bona fide triple threat for the Nuggets

As the 2010-11 season approaches, Nuggets.com is taking a closer look at each Nuggets player and their prospects for the upcoming season. Assistant coach Chad Iske, entering his 12th season with the team, was kind enough to provide a scouting report, which reflects the views of the Nuggets coaching staff as a whole.

Today’s featured player is shooting guard Arron Afflalo, who enjoyed a breakout year after being traded from Detroit to Denver prior to the 2009-10 season. He started 75 of 82 games and averaged career highs in nearly every statistical category.

As his coaches and teammates will attest, Afflalo is the hardest-working player on the team. He spent the first part of the summer running the beach and working out in Los Angeles before returning to Denver in July to refine his overall game.

Afflalo regularly ends his practice by hitting 10 three-pointers from seven spots around the arc. He went 70-for-93 on one particular day during training camp, giving the Nuggets reason to believe he’s going to be a huge perimeter threat again in 2010-11.

Here are a few things you need to know about Arron Agustin Afflalo, who celebrated his 25th birthday Friday:

    NICKNAME: Triple-A

    BEST PERFORMANCE LAST SEASON

Afflalo made 9-of-11 shots, including 6-of-7 threes, and tied his career-high with 24 points in a victory over Charlotte on Jan. 25. He also set a career-high with seven assists.

    COACHING STAFF’S ASSESSMENT OF 2009-10

“We thought Arron stepped in and gave us a lot of the defensive presence that we lost when Dahntay Jones left (as a free agent), especially in the starting unit. We were very happy that he was an efficient player and an efficient scorer for us. His shots came few and far between, but he was able to make a good percentage of the ones he got.”

    OUTLOOK FOR 2010-11

“Arron’s had an incredible summer. He’s worked tirelessly on his game. We’re looking for him to be able to play more minutes for us and to be a more consistent scoring option and scoring threat and to continue his excellent perimeter defense.”

IN HIS OWN WORDS: WHAT WENT RIGHT LAST SEASON

“Just hitting open shots. That was pretty much what I did. I tried to play off the other players a little bit.”

    IMPROVEMENTS FOR 2010-11

“I want to be a little bit more of a playmaker. That’s about it. Nothing too out of the ordinary. There were a lot of opportunities where I could’ve made plays for myself or my teammates and I just didn’t do it last year. This year I fully expect to do that.”

    INDIVIDUAL GOALS

“I just want to get better. I want to improve. I want to play the game with a little more aggression, a little more confidence. That’s about it, try to get to an even higher level of a defender.”

    MOST TWEETABLE STAT

.434 Three-point percentage, which ranked 8th in the NBA.
